  • Sure, the Whitworth is far from the worst ‘Mechs in 3025, but it’s not among the best either. Max armor for a 40-tonner is nothing to write home about, LRM-10s are garbage fire-support and while three medium lasers aren’t nothing they can’t cause a PSR. I like to say that the Whitworth is most notable for not being notable. It’s not good at anything, and it’s too light to have much impact on a battlefield that’s not full of LWS (Locusts, Wasps, and Stingers,) but it doesn’t suck. Most damning is that, even given the advantages lighter machines enjoy in fast movement, it can’t outrun its betters.

You might take a Whitworth over a Centurion, but I wouldn’t. The Whitworth might be maxed on armor, but the Centurion still has more, and inside 15 hexes, the Centurion’s doing more damage as long as its AC ammo lasts, which will be nearly as long as the Whitworth’s LRM ammo lasts, and if your battle comes down to a medium-laser fight between a Centurion and a Whitworth, someone’s doing something very wrong.

Thanks for the V-blog, though. It was entertaining enough (especially the pop-up comments,) and I haven’t had a good opportunity to argue about a ‘Mech in a while…(FWIW, I’ve never argued about a Whitworth before, AFAIK, so the “most argued about” label probably doesn’t stick. Try the Shadow Hawk for that one. Or maybe an UrbanMech.)
