Coca Cola and holiday ham, The nieces and nephews with mom’s toy tram, the layers of fog and the frost on the sill, smoking chorizo on the kitchen grill, Santa Claus, Jesus, Grandma, Nonna, Papa Frank are close, Papa Risner is staying until the 29th. Blue Olds, old paint, Battlemechs, nerf darts, a level one fight and pizza night, Vince Guaraldi’s on the long player while Schulz is on the tube, Jimmy Stewart will be following, Bill Murray too, egg nog and Glenlivet, Terry and Kevin also stay the day, Lights on the eves, the willow’s shelter, long distance phone calls, emails, forum posts, blog entries, kind words, even a postcard or two, wrapping paper, candy canes, garland, popcorn, caramel, bicycles, action figures, a pair of pants, and a yellow sweater, 41 degrees and a touch, just a touch, with dad as we sit on the porch away from the noise and gaze out the old backyard. A wintertime dream.
